Drops Like Tears In The Ocean – A Poem

Drops Like Tears In The Ocean – A Poem
by Andrew Voigt

Drops like tears in the ocean
Eyes stare right back at me
Reflection found in the middle
Of losing my deepest of dreams

Faith and fear are exclusive
Fighting for what’s within me
Deep within all my darkness
My heart is screaming for peace

I thought this life would be easy
I thought I’d reach all my dreams
But here I am in the darkness
Wondering what’s happened to me

You see, demons are liars
And all saints can’t be priests
For I was never the savior
I once thought I should be

Time is a tear in the ocean
Our days on earth are so brief
How easy it is to get caught up
With the person I’m not mean to be

Success is a word growing weary
Vanity and pleasure aren’t sweet
Life is meant to be journeyed
Not exchanged for cheap luxury

You see, demons are liars
And all saints can’t be priests
For we were never the saviors
we once thought we should be

“Happy” was never the purpose
Self-glory was never the call
How is it we all get so wrapped up
In pride as we stumble and fall?

I was never a savior or high priest
Just a liar with a head full of dreams
But in You I’m more than a phantom
In a world full of demons and thieves

Your name’s marked upon my chest
These dried bones, they come alive
I’m a drop like a tear in the ocean
Yet, I’m known by name in Your mind

Drops like tears in the ocean
I’m a drop like a tear in the ocean
Drops like tears in the ocean
We’re all drops like tears in the ocean

The great ocean of grace.

  1. Wonderfully honest.
    Thank you for sharing.
Have you thought of putting it to music?

    • Thank you Niki! Funny enough, I used to write songs all the time, so I guess that’s why there is more of a lyrical vibe to it than just a poem. 😉 For this one, no, not yet…But hey, that’s actually not a bad idea!
