Day & Age: Waking Up In A World Drowning In Mere Existence

“To live is the rarest thing in the world. Most people just exist.” – Oscar Wilde

Wake up! You’re alive!

That wind against your face? That is a reminder that this is your day and age.

Those moments with the ones you love? This is a reminder of the human soul’s longing for love.

Music, art and beauty? They are the echoes of eternity within us all.

You see, we were not made to merely exist; we were made to live. To come alive means that we are living fully awake, recognizing the beauty surrounding us! This is your time and these are the days you have been given!

There have been days where I wallowed in sorrow, heartache, pain, and despair. Depression and anxiety are still my constant foes, warring against my heart and my mind. Even so, I am learning the valuable lesson of simply being present in the here and now.

We are not guaranteed tomorrow, nor can we revisit yesterday, but we certainly have this moment to live, to love, to create, and to make a positive difference in our world.

That coffee you’re sipping as you wake up in the morning? That is a reminder of the goodness of God.

The exams you are studying vigorously to pass? Those are invitations to develop your fascinating mind.

The friend who needs your love and kindness? They are the reminder that we all need one another.

That feeling inside you that gnaws and gnaws, screaming for something more? That is the reminder that we’re eternal beings, designed to know the eternal God.

Today, what if you chose to live, rather than to exist? What would that look like?
